Balochistan holds third phase of LB polls

QUETTA, Pakistan: The third phase of local government elections in Balochistan for the seats reserved for peasants and labourers is being held on Wednesday.

In all, 1,482 candidates are in the run for 613 reserved seats while 338 polling stations have been set up throughout the province for the purpose.

The polling which began at 09:00 in the morning would continue till 03:00 in the afternoon without break.

Meanwhile, a meeting of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was held in Islamabad on Tuesday to review matters pertaining to holding of local government elections in Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Muhammad Raza presided over the meeting.

During the meeting, the ECP directed the governments of three provinces to complete all arrangements necessary for holding local bodies’ elections.

The meeting was informed that progress has been made in delimitations in Sindh and Punjab and a committee has been constituted to review matters regarding local government system in Sindh.
