Monitoring Desk: In a historic move, Azerbaijan has recovered strategically important and socially symbol Shusha from Armenia’s illegal occupation.
Now, the Azerbaijani Army fully controls Shusha, Defense Ministry.
According to State-Run News Agency Azertac, the Armenian side is spreading misinformation about the restoration of control over Shusha in order to hide its failure in the battles for Shusha and to calm down its society, Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry told AZERTAC.
“We declare that the Azerbaijani Army fully controls the city of Shusha,” the ministry said.
Shusha is a city in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh in the South Caucasus situated at an altitude of 4,600–5,900 feet above sea level in the Karabakh mountains, Shusha was a mountain recreation resort in the Soviet era.
According to documents, Shusha was founded in 1752 by Panah Ali Khan. From the mid-18th century to 1822 Shusha was the capital of the Karabakh Khanate. The town became one of the cultural centers of the South Caucasus after the Russian conquest of the Caucasus region in the first half of the 19th century. Over time, it became a city and a home to many Azerbaijani intellectuals, poets, writers and especially, musicians (e.g., the ashiks, mugham singers, kobuz players).
