LONDON: The Secretary General of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Stephen Twigg called on the Speaker National Assembly of Pakistan Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in London on Saturday.
During the meeting, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq reiterated that as one of the founding members, Pakistan fully subscribes to the fundamental values of the Commonwealth.
The Speaker said that Commonwealth has immense potential to enhance its relevance in the current geopolitical and economic scenarios for the welfare of citizens of commonwealth nations.
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq highlighted that National Assembly of Pakistan was focusing on capacity building of its members and staff.
Furthermore, he emphasized on collaboration between CPA and Pakistan Institute of Parliamentary Services (PIPS) for training of Members and Staff, particularly in drafting legislations and rules of business of the Parliament.
The Secretary General CPA Stephen Twigg appreciated the role of Pakistan in carrying forward the development agenda of the Commonwealth as an important partner.
Stephen Twigg informed the Speaker that CPA had established links with UK universities for courses on Parliamentary studies and Pakistani universities could also collaborate as joint ventures.
