As everyone took a breath of relief when the Sasta Petrol Sasta Diesel scheme was launched by the Shehbaz Sharif’s Government of Pakistan and announced by Finance Minister Miftah Ismail on 28th May 2022 – many were left questioning the eligibility criteria of the package.

It was explained that the relief fund is being provided to those with a household income of less than PKR 40,000 per month. The people who passed this criteria were requested to text their CNIC numbers to 786 or call them directly to receive PKR 2000.

PKR 28 Billion has been reserved by the government to facilitate 14 million families with the help of this sasta petrol scheme 2022.

Miftah also mentioned that the government hopes for this PM Petrol Relief Package to help protect the poor people from the ‘storm of inflation’ and that they can’t offer complete relief to the poor due to lack of resources. He added that, “we will do all we can to dress the wounds of the poor people”, in his press conference in Islamabad. The Sasta Petrol Sasta Diesel scheme was set to begin from 1st June 2022 so if you are someone (or know someone) who can avail it and might not know how to – please read ahead for clarity.

How to Apply for the ‘Sasta Petrol, Sasta’ Diesel scheme

Step 1: Send your Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) number to 786 via SMS for registration in this scheme.

Step 2: Wait for a message from Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) as it will confirm the payment transfer.

Step 3: Once you have received the message, residents of Punjab, Sindh, and/or Balochistan can visit HBL,while residents of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa (KP), Gilgit Baltistan (GB), and/or Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK) can visit Bank Alfalah to claim a subsidy of PKR 2,000 per the scheme.

Eligibility for the Sasta Petrol Sasta Diesel relief fund

The government is offering the PM Shehbaz Sharif Sasta petrol Sasta diesel scheme 2022 to all 8 million families that were registered in the BISP (Benazir Income Support Programme) along with a quota for 6 million non-registered families that can acquire this support package by providing a proof of their monthly household income being less the PKR 40,000.
