The HUM TV drama serial Sabaat has become a matter of serious debate on social media. Casting Mawra Hocane, Sarah Khan, Usman Mukhtar, and Ameer Gilani as the leads, the hit drama serial has tangled itself into a very serious controversy. One of the main reasons it is in the news is because of how it is representing mental health and overshadowing the importance of it by turning it into a love story. The Initial Storyline Sabaat started with Miraal (Sarah Khan) going to Dr. Harris (Usman Mukhtar) to seek professional help for her mental health issues. She started seeing him and is often found either dropping unannounced or asking him to meet outside his clinic for a chat. Not just this, but both of them are shown to develop feelings for each other. What’s Wrong Here? Since mental health is a big taboo in Pakistan, the drama writers and producers should have tread along the fine line very carefully. Unfortunately, they did not. In the sessions, especially at the beginning, Dr. Harris wasn’t shown to guide Miraal about the basics of therapy, confidentiality, and the therapist-patient relationship. The drama needed to portray that because of the sensitivity of the topic’s nature. Moreover, it isn’t odd for a patient to develop feelings for their therapist due to a lot of reasons. However, a doctor falling in love with her might just be awfully wrong. In the recent episode, we did see that Dr. Harris write an email to Miraal detailing that she should see a new professional and guide her towards some good colleagues that she can seek help from. We don’t know whether this scene was added after the outrage of social media or it was a part of the original script. Why Is It A Problem? Even though Dr. Harris sending Miraal an email to discontinue the sessions was a sensible move from the makers, it undervalues the importance of therapy and mental health in society. The Pakistani society which originally struggles with giving mental health its due importance will now undermine girls going to therapists because it will now become a matter of honor and family values. The parents just might not allow their daughters to seek help for the very reason. Furthermore, for mental health counseling, the concept of setting boundaries is very important. No such thing has been shown in this therapist-patient relationship in Sabaat. It is always preferred for the therapist to disclose the likelihood of the patient falling for him/ her, but it wasn’t a part of any of the episode scripts. Finally, it is a big no for a therapist to meet the patient in a friendly setting, especially if he is asking her out. We don’t know where is Sabaat heading with this relationship, but we think that the drama has done enough damage already.

Details Of Gul Panra’s Dance Video In Deputy Commissioner’s House Revealed The famous Pashto singer Gul Panra, who initially got the fame country-wide due to her performance in Coke Studio, became the matter of a social media controversy when her TikTok video in the rest house of Deputy Commissioner, Landi Kotal got viral. The details of the incident were revealed in the letter by Arbab Khizar of Muslim League N to Secretary KPK. What Actually Happened? According to the details revealed officially, Gul Panra made a TikTok video in the Rest House of Deputy Commissioner. The video went viral within the minutes of posting on social media. The instant action was taken to ensure the right measures were taken to find out why it happened. The report on the incident has only been finished recently and has been sent to the authorities. However, there is a new twist in the story by Arbab Khizar who wrote a letter to the Chief Secretary. What Did He Reveal? According to the letter written by Khizar, Gul Panra went to Landhi Kotal with his family. He said that Panra along with other members of the family had masks on, so the identity of the singer could not be revealed properly. The PML-N represented along with his family was incited to the Guest House of Assistant Commissioner for tea. This is when Panra made the TikTok video worth a few seconds in the garden within the premises. He further said that the video was made and uploaded on the private account, however, the entire situation has been painted in a rather wrong light. Reactions Of Public To The Incident This letter by Arbab Khizar sheds new light on the incident. However, we are yet to see any effects of it. Since the day, the video went viral, it has become a cause of the debate among the masses. Mawra Hocane’s Stupidity Stirs A Controversy Once Again! Mawra Hocane Thinks It’s Okay For Men To Stare At Women Mawra is known for paying no heed to general common sense and public sentiments. She is famous for her senseless remarks and completely baseless opinions on sensitive topics. This time again, an old video has surfaced, which clearly shows that the little Ms. Hocane has no idea what the actual world is like and how important it is for her to think and speak sensibly. What Did Mawra Do This Time? An old video of Mawra Hocane promoting Jawaani Phir Nahi Aani 2 with Humayun Saeed and Kubra Khan in an Eid morning show by Nida Yasir has surfaced on the internet. The video started floating yesterday and now has gone viral within no time. The snippet of the morning show shows Hocane glorifying street harassment and saying that it is a right of the Lahori boys who are known for publicly catcalling and abusing women. Hocane’s Conversation With Nida Yasir Yasir asks Hocane about the Lahori boys and questioned: “Has anyone ever teased you?” To the question, she responds as: “I think that’s just Lahore’s fun, boys tease you with music roaring from their cars. I think that’s just the feel of Lahori Eid.” She also further normalized the harassment by saying: “So, we don’t mind. It’s okay, keep looking at us”. The surprised host on the answer asks her once again: “So even if someone teases you right now you won’t mind?” To this, Hocane unflinchingly chirped: “Haan, koi baat nahi, tumhari bhi Eid hai (Yes, it doesn’t matter, it’s your Eid too).” Here is the complete snippet of the conversation: The Guests Reaction To Her Comments What’s more upsetting is that on her remarks, everyone including Hocane laughed. She has become the first local celebrity influencer to reach this figure, which is a feat.
