Australia lauds Pakistan’s efforts for regional stability

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: Australia has appreciated efforts of Pakistani security forces towards regional stability, according to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The appreciation came when the Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop met the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif at the army’s general headquarters in Rawalpindi on Thursday.

In its press release, the ISPR told that during the meeting, the two sides discussed matters of mutual interest including defence and security coop between the two countries.

The Australian foreign minister appreciated the successes of operation Zarb-e-Azb and sacrifices rendered by Pakistani security forces in the operation. She also appreciated efforts of Pakistani security forces towards regional stability.

The Australian foreign minister is currently in Pakistan on a two-day official visit.

Earlier in the day, Julie Bishop called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad and discussed bilateral matters including ways to enhance cooperation in various fields.

During the meeting, the prime minister said that Pakistan attaches great importance to its ties with Australia and intends to enhance bilateral cooperation with it in diversified fields.
