PoliticsATC rejects PPP's petition to become party in Benazir Bhutto murder case

RAWALPINDI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Rawalpindi on Tuesday rejected a petition filed by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to become a party in a case relating to the murder of the former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

During today’s proceedings, the PPP’s Secretary General and counsel Sardar Latif Khosa submitted his power of attorney in the court hearing the Benazir Bhutto murder case in Rawalpindi.

Khosa presented his arguments before the court and said Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was the son of Benazir and now her legal heir, therefore the PPP should be allowed to become a party in the case.

The ATC judge Chaudhry Habibur Rehman said there was no scope for a political party to become party in a murder trial and after hearing the preliminary arguments presented by Khosa, rejected the PPP’s petition.

The hearing of the case was subsequently adjourned to September 17.
