ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Joint Candidate of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Asif Ali Zardari has been elected as 14th President of Pakistan for next five years by securing 411 votes from the Electoral College.

The Electoral College consists of Members of the Senate, National Assembly and the four Provincial Assemblies.

The polling went underway earlier in the morning for the election of the Office of President of Pakistan and continued till four in the afternoon without any break.

Members of the Senate and National Assembly cast their votes at the Parliament House in Islamabad while Members of all four Provincial Assemblies voted at their respective Houses.

The Sunni Ittehad Council’s (SIC) Candidate and Chairman Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) Mahmood Khan Achakzai received 181 votes in the election held for the Office of the President.Asif Ali Zardari elected as 14th President of Pakistan

In Islamabad, where members of the National Assembly and the Senate cast their votes with the Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court (IHC) Aamer Farooq as the Presiding Officer, Asif Ali Zardari received 255 votes while Mahmood Khan Achakzai grabbed 119 votes.

In the Balochistan Assembly, 47 Members voted for Zardari and none for Achakzai. From the House, 15 Members were absent.

In the Punjab Assembly, Zardari received 246 votes while Achakzai managed to only get 100 votes. Out of the 352 cast votes, six were rejected.

In Sindh wherein Zardari’s own PPP is in the power, he received 151 votes in the Presidential Election while Mehmood Khan Achakzai only managed nine votes.

The Chairman PkMAP bagged 91 votes in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly while Asif Ali Zardari managed to secure 17 votes.
