Article 245 to be imposed in Punjab

LAHORE, Pakistan: The Punjab government has decided to impose article 245 of the constitution in the province, under which army will be deployed in Punjab in aide of civil administration.

The Punjab law minister Rana Mashhood confirmed that the provincial government will make a formal request to the federal government to invoke article 245 in Punjab.

The decision comes in the backdrop of ongoing clashes between police and workers of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) across the province during which, according to a spokesman of Punjab police, more than 100 security personnel have been wounded.

The Pakistan army has already been controlling the federal capital’s security since August 1 for three months under article 245.
