ANP demands KPK govt to step down, re-polling under caretaker setup

PESHAWAR, Pakistan: The Awami National Party (ANP) Chief Asfand Yar Wali has demanded the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to step down and said that re-elections should be held across the province under a caretaker setup.

“No elections can be held with complete transparency under the current government” the ANP leader said while addressing a press conference in Peshawar on Wednesday.

The ANP leader said that they are in contact will all political parties regarding re-polling in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Asfand Yar Wali said that when there was rigging in Punjab, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) blamed the provincial government for that and now there is rigging in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but they are blaming the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). He also requested the federation to strengthen the election commission.

His statement came a day after the PTI Chairman Imran Khan announced that they are ready to hold re-elections under the army’s supervision in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s constituencies where allegations of poll rigging were made by opposition parties.

On May 30, the local government elections were held across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. However, different political parties alleged that rigging, mass irregularities and mismanagement took place in the elections. They also alleged that the PTI government used the state machinery to win the elections.

Asfand Yar Wali also strongly condemned the arrest of the ANP’s central general secretary Mian Iftikhar Hussain and said that they will take revenge of it.
