CHANDIGARH, India: The Chief of Akal Takht Giani Harpreet Singh has demanded the imposition of a ban on the the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the ideological mentor of the Indian ruling party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

While interacting with journalists in Amritsar, Giani Harpreet Singh said that allowing RSS to operate freely would only “divide” the nation.

   

“Yes, it should be banned. I believe what the RSS is doing will create divisions in the country. The statements being made by RSS leaders are not in the country’s interests,” the Akal Takht Chief said.

Singh pointed out that the RSS was linked to the BJP. “It is not in the country’s interests. It will hurt the country and destroy it,” he was quoted as saying by NDTV.

Giani Harpreet Singh called upon the Centre to rein in the RSS outfit.
