Kabul, Afghanistan: Mayor of Faizabad Gen. Nazir Niazi survived suicide attack.

According to initial information received here, Mayor of Faizabad Gen. Nazir Niazi was watching a football match when a suicide bomber tried to reach him in ground but was blown up before he could reach near Mayor. Reports coming from Faizabad suggest that several spectators present in ground received injuries but officials in Kabul are claiming that no causality is reported.

Badakhshan province of Afghanistan has become a ruling area for terrorists where Taliban, Islamic State and Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) are engage in sporadic activities. TTP is working along with Taliban and majority of TTP leadership is living in Asadabad and travel to and from Badakhshan province.

Meanwhile, Khaama news agency has reported that  suicide bomber was attempting to target Gen. Niazi but was identified and killed before he manage to target Mayor.

Badakhshan province borders with Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Province and Khatlon Province in Tajikistan to the north and east while its Wakhan Corridor touches Chitral Valley of Pakistan. Taliban are present in this area from where they attack inside Pakistan. The government of Tajikistan has placed extra security forces at border since last two years. This area had been under the control of Northern Alliance during the short rule of Taliban but now this area has become base-camp of Taliban to attack neighbouring Pakistan.

His Royal Highnes conveyed his heartfelt acknowledgement to Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu for the participation of Pakistan Air Force contingent comprising JF-17 Block-III fighter jets alongside air and ground crew in the Bahrain International Airshow. Chief of the Air Staff expressed his gratitude for the honour of receiving the Bahrain Medal - First Class. On the sidelines of Bahrain International Airshow, Commander of Ninth Air Force (US Air Forces Central Command — AFCENT), Lieutenant General Derek France called on Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force. The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
