Monitoring Desk: The Foreign Minister of Afghanistan Mohammed Haneef Atmar wanted an immediate Session of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to pressure the Taliban to stop their advances.

The Foreign Minister Mohammed Haneef Atmar held a telephonic conversation with the Indian Minister of External Affairs Dr. S. Jaishankar asking him to help Afghanistan for calling an emergency of United Nations Security Council Session on Afghanistan to highlight the grave situation of Afghanistan. According to the Office of the Foreign Minister, the Indian Minister for External Affairs ensured his support for the Afghan government against the Taliban.

 


It may be mentioned that India took over the revolving UNSC presidency as a non-permanent member of the UNSC on August 1, 2021, for the month of August and can fix such Session for Afghanistan in UNSC.

Meanwhile, Haneef Atmar hosted European Union and Central Asian ambassadors for a dinner on August 3, 2021, to brief them on the situation in Afghanistan and alleged that the Taliban were conducting brutalities that were resulting in humanitarian crisis, violations, and destructions.

He demanded support from countries of guests he invited to use their influence over the Taliban to prevent further advances.
