CrimeAbu Dhabi court orders to deport Tauqeer Sadiq within a month

KARACHI: A court in Abu Dhabi has ordered to deport former Chairman Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) within a month, a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) official said on Monday.

The court issued its order on the request of the Pakistani government. Tauqir Sadiq, declared a proclaimed offender and is also a principal accused in a Rs82 billion corruption case, has the right to file an appeal against this verdict.

Tauqir fled to Abu Dhabi after the Supreme Court of Pakistan declared his appointment as OGRA chief illegal on Nov 25, 2011, and ordered NAB to arrest him.

His alleged close links with Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) leadership had reportedly played a major role in his escape from Pakistan despite cancellation of his passport and his name being on Exit Control List.
