The popular social networking and micro-blogging site 𝕏 (formerly known as Twitter) has never been banned in the United Arab Emirates (UAE); however, Dubai once blocked it.Why Dubai blocked 𝕏, formerly Twitter

The Emirate of Dubai unilaterally blocked the Twitter or 𝕏 in 2008, alleging that its content wasn’t consistent with the religious, moral and political values of the region.

Elsewhere in the UAE, the micro-blogging site has been operating uninterruptedly since the outset.

In the past, Twitter or now 𝕏 has been blocked by the authorities in Egypt, Nigeria, Pakistan, Türkiye, Uganda, and UAE (Dubai only).

While presently the site remains blocked in China, Iran, Myanmar, North Korea, Russia, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.

Recently, billionaire Elon Musk – who acquired the Twitter last year after sealing a US$ 44 billion deal and later rebranded it into 𝕏 – has now announced that the blocking feature will be removed for users of 𝕏, saying that it “makes no sense”.
