ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: A total of 208 deaths occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa which makes 81.6 percent of total deaths after a strong 7.5 magnitude earthquake jolted Pakistan on October 26.

As the number of casualties continue to increase caused by the calamity, the death toll across the country has soared to 255, according to the latest updates issued by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Wednesday.

The NDMA says that the number of injured persons stands at 1697 while 9,209 houses were damaged across Pakistan due to Monday’s earthquake.

The northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province is the worst affected by the earthquake as it carried 208 deaths and 1518 injuries. Likewise, 91.7 percent of the damaged houses – 8453 in number – belong to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The Gilgit-Baltistan is the second worst earthquake-affected area where 30 people lost their lives, 59 injured while 300 houses were damaged.

10 people were killed in Punjab and 30 were admitted in various hospitals for getting the treatment of their injuries. Whereas 392 houses were partially or completely destroyed in Punjab.

In Azad Kashmir, five people died, 78 injured whereas 60 houses collapsed.

The Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) is the least affected of areas where casualties took place. Two persons died, 12 sustained injuries while six houses were damaged in the tribal region.

The Sindh and Balochistan provinces did not suffer any casualties nor any property damage.

PM Nawaz reviews earthquake relief activities

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif arrived in Peshawar today on the first leg of his visit to review relief activities in quake affected Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

In a briefing, the prime minster was told that 222 people were killed, 1688 injured whereas 8454 houses were damaged by the quake in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The prime minister was informed that relief goods including tents, blankets and food items have also been sent to all affected areas.

Later, the prime minister will visit Chitral to have an aerial view of the quake hit areas and to meet with the affected people.
