QUETTA, Pakistan: The Balochistan government has decided to take safety measures to ensure security on the eve of Muharram-ul-Haram under which hate speeches, displaying weapons and pillion riding would be banned across the province.

In this regard, the Provincial Home Secretary Akbar Hussain Durrani presided over a high level meeting in Quetta on Friday.

The meeting reviewed security arrangements during the month of Muharram-ul-Haram in Balochistan and decided that hate speeches and displaying weapons would be banned.

It was decided that pillion riding would be suspended on Muharram 9 and 10 while routes of processions would be completely sealed. Besides, processions of Muharram would be monitored through Close Circuit Television (CCTV) Cameras.

It was also decided that armed forces would remain stand by on Muharram 9 and 10.

In addition, the meeting appealed to religious scholars to help law enforcement agencies in ending sectarianism and establish peace in the province.

National Party leader killed in Turbat

Meanwhile, a leader of the National Party (NP) was gunned down in Tumb tehsil of Balochistan’s Turbat district on Friday.

The Levies sources said that the incident took place in Balecha area of Tump where two unknown gunmen opened fire at the NP leader Ali Muhammad Baloch outside his residence.

The leader died on the spot while the assailants managed to flee the scene successfully.

In a statement, the spokesman of the Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch, Jan Muhammad Buledi, strongly condemned the incident and termed it a conspiracy to destroy the peace of the province.

Buledi said that National Party has decided to observe three days of mourning to mourn the killing of its local organiser and a devoted worker.
