Pakistan’s National Security Advisor Sartaj Aziz

This will be conveyed by the National Security Advisor Sartaj Aziz when he will visit Kabul on Friday and hold talks with the Afghan leadership, according the sources.

“The Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sartaj Aziz, will visit Kabul on 4 September 2015,” said a statement issued by the Foreign Office on Thursday.

The foreign office said that Sartaj Aziz will lead the Pakistani delegation in the Ministerial Meeting of the Sixth Regional Economic Conference on Afghanistan (RECCA-VI).

The advisor will also hold consultations with the Afghan leadership on important bilateral issues.

The foreign office sources said that the advisor during his visit to Kabul will impress upon the Afghan side for restoring trust deficit and reiterate Pakistan’s support for intra-Afghan dialogue.

Sartaj Aziz will also call upon the Afghan leadership to stop anti-Pakistan propaganda campaign by some Afghan leaders, the sources said.

“Pakistan wants to maintain cordial relations with Afghanistan and that is why it has not gone for tit-for-tat to the allegations emanating from other side,” the sources said.

The sources said that the advisor will convey to the Afghan leadership that Pakistan would continue to facilitate intra-Afghan dialogue as lasting peace in the neighbouring country can only come through dialogue process.

The sources pointed out that there is no military solution of the Afghan problem as the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) could not restore peace despite presence of one hundred and fifty thousand troops.

In addition, the sources rejected reports that Haqqani group is still active in Afghanistan operating from the soil of Pakistan and said that its backbone has already been broken.

The sources said that Pakistan is spending huge amounts from its meagre resources to eliminate terrorism from North Waziristan and there is no discrimination among terrorists as all are targeted.

Moreover, they said that the Indian intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and the Afghan Directorate of National Security (DNS) have institutional linkages.
