ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Iran has said that it wants broaden mutual cooperation with Pakistan as the Iranian Foreign Minister Muhammad Javad Zarif arrived in Islamabad on a day-long visit on Thursday.

“We are trying to remove the problems that have been created for both countries due to the western-imposed sanctions,” Zarif said upon his arrival at Benazir Bhutto International Airport in Islamabad on Thursday morning.

The Iranian foreign minister described his country’s ties with Pakistan as a friendly and neighboring country very important.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran deems as highly important its relations with the neighboring countries and Pakistan is a friend, neighbor and very close to Iran; we have very solid relations with that country in different fields, especially in the cultural area,” Zarif said according to IRNA.

Javad Zarif said that one of the most important objectives of his visit to Pakistan is exchanging views on different subjects especially economic cooperation.

Later, the visiting foreign minister called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif discussed mutual cooperation and regional developments.

During the meeting, the two leaders underlined the need for consolidation of all-out ties between Iran and Pakistan to further broaden mutual cooperation, especially in the post-nuclear deal era between Iran and the six world powers.

Zarif will also hold talks with the Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, the Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and the Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani.

Javad Zarif and Sartaj Aziz will also attend a joint press conference in Islamabad.

“The two sides will exchange views on further enhancing of bilateral relations and regional and international issue of mutual interest,” the Foreign Office Spokesman Qazi Khalilullah said in a statement on Wednesday.
