ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar has urged the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to do its utmost to achieve revenue target set for next year.

In his address at the Chief Commissioners’ Conference of the Board in Islamabad on Friday, the minister emphasized the importance of revenue generation in the national development.

The finance minister said that simplification of procedures for filing tax returns was important to facilitate and encourage prospective tax payers and expanding the tax net.

Ishaq Dar also commended the FBR on increasing revenue collection by 33 percent and increasing the tax to the gross domestic product ratio from 8.4 percent to 9.45 percent in last two years.

The focus of the conference was to learn from last year’s experience and devise a strategy for current financial year.

The issues like handling of court cases, broadening of tax base, effective utilization of data, facilitation and education of taxpayers, increasing numbers of tax filers and making sales tax registration easier and localized were thoroughly discussed in the conference.
