KARACHI, Pakistan: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Wednesday submitted resolutions against each other in the Sindh Assembly, accusing each other of making disrespectful remarks about the Pakistan army.
In a resolution submitted by the members of the PTI in the provincial assembly, the MQM Chief Altaf Hussain’s recent remarks regarding the Pakistan army and the officials of the Pakistan Rangers Sindh were strongly condemned.
The resolution also called upon the federal government to take notice of the remarks and initiate strict action against him. It also demanded ban on speeches of Altaf Hussain.
Separately, the MQM lawmakers also tabled a resolution in the House against the PTI Chief Imran Khan, demanding his disqualification from the National Assembly because of his disrespectful comments about Pakistani army generals.
The MQM in its resolution referred to a video of Imran Khan in which he was seen uttering while talking to other party members that ‘If we gathered 20,000 people, then Pakistani generals would wet themselves’.
On Sunday, the MQM Chief while addressing from London a convention of party workers in Karachi called upon the army chief to take notice of the alleged violation of army’s code of conduct by the director general of Sindh Rangers and other officials and urged him to do justice in the matter.
“Are Rangers a security force or a political party? Does the code of conduct of the armed forces allow the army, its paramilitary forces like Rangers, etc, to issue a charge-sheet against a political party,” Altaf Hussain asked in his address.
Later on Monday, the Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan in a press conference termed Altaf Hussain’s speech unacceptable and condemnable, saying that no country can allow abusing and attacking its defence institutions by those sitting abroad.
The interior minister said that the government exercised utmost restraint but time has come to take up the issue with the British government.
