Mian Iftikhar Hussain gets bail in PTI worker murder case

PESHAWAR, Pakistan: The Awami National Party (ANP) Central Secretary General Mian Iftikhar Hussain was granted bail on Tuesday in a case pertaining to his alleged involvement in the murder of a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) worker.

On Sunday, a PTI worker Habibullah was killed during a clash with the ANP activists in Pabbi area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Nowshera district. Later, police took Mian Iftikhar Hussain into custody and lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against him.

While hearing the case on Tuesday, the Judicial Magistrate Nowshera accepted the bail application of the ANP’s central secretary general against surety bonds worth Rs200,000.

His bail was accepted after father of the deceased submitted his written statement in the court that Mian Iftikhar is not involved in the killing of his son.

Earlier on Monday, the father of the deceased PTI activist told the court that he was pressured into registering the FIR against Mian Iftikhar Hussain. He said that the ANP leader had no role in killing of his son.

The clash had erupted between the PTI and the ANP activists near residence of Mian Iftikhar Hussain in Pabbi area after the Saturday night announcement of the area’s results of the local government elections held on Saturday.
