Poll rigging probe: Judicial commission submits three questions to all parties

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Judicial Commission on Monday handed over a questionnaire as per terms of reference to all political parties with regard to alleged rigging in May 2013 general elections.

A three-member commission headed by the Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk and comprising Justice Amir Hani Muslim and Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan held its proceedings at the Supreme Court on Monday.

During the proceedings, the Chief Justice said that some parties did not submit documents under the commission’s terms of reference and most of the documents submitted were generic.

The judicial commission provided all political parties a questionnaire pertaining to the terms of reference which asks if they thought there was systematic rigging in the 2013 general elections, who had made the plan for systematic rigging, is there evidence to prove systematic rigging, how was the plan made and implemented.

The next meeting of the Judicial Commission will be held on Wednesday.

The commission was formed after President Mamnoon Hussain on April 3 issued an ordinance for setting up a judicial commission on the advice of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif following an agreement between the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for a judicial commission that will investigate allegations of rigging in 2013 general elections.
