Pakistan supports UNSC resolution on Yemen: Rasheed

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan supports the United Nations Security Council’s (UNSC) resolution on Yemen and respects decision of the international community, the Federal Information Minister Pervaiz Rasheed said.

The UN Security Council on April 14 imposed arms embargo on the Houthi rebels in Yemen, amid ongoing airstrikes on the country by the Saudi-led regional coalition.

The resolution also blacklisted top Houthi leader Abdel-Malek al-Houthi as well as the son of Yemen’s former President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

“Pakistan is very much aware of its responsibilities and is ready to fulfil them,” Rasheed said while talking to media persons in Islamabad on Wednesday.

The information minister said that Saudi Arabia has always helped Pakistan in hour of need and we will stand shoulder to shoulder to our benefactor if need arises. He said that hearts of the people of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia beat together.

A high level Pakistani delegation led by the Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif and comprising the Prime Minister’s Advisor on National Security and Foreign Affairs and the Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry reached Saudi Arabia today to discuss bilateral relations and regional situation with special reference to Yemen crisis with the Saudi officials.

“We have strong relations with Saudi Arabia and exchange of delegations between the two countries is a routine matter,” he said.

The minister said that all political parties are united on national issues and the unanimous resolution recently adopted by the joint session of the Parliament is reflective of this fact.
