Altaf Hussain appears at London police station as part of money laundering probe

LONDON: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain was granted bail extension on Tuesday by the London police in the money laundering case till July 9.

The bail extension was given after the MQM chief gave an interview in relation to a money laundering investigation for more than five hours at the Southwark Police Station in London.

Earlier in the day, Altaf Hussain accompanied by his legal team and the MQM senior leaders including Dr Farooq Sattar and Babar Ghauri arrived at the police station from his residence in northwest London as part of the money laundering investigations.

During his stay in the police station, the MQM chief was interrogated and his statement was recorded by officers from the London Metropolitan Police in the money laundering case.

The 60-year-old Altaf Hussain was arrested by the London Metropolitan Police from his residence in northwest London on June 3 last year on the charge of money laundering.

Four days after his arrest, the MQM chief was released. Later, he was granted two bail extensions ─ the first in July 2014 and the second on December 3, 2014.
