Pakistan welcomes preliminary deal on Iran nuclear program

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Foreign Office has said that Pakistan welcomes the understanding reached between the Islamic Republic of Iran and six major world powers in Switzerland.

“Pakistan had consistently maintained that the Iran nuclear issue should be resolved peacefully through dialogue,” the Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said in a statement on Saturday.

“It is our earnest hope that the parties concerned will be able to finalize the comprehensive agreement before the end of June and it’s implementation will contribute to stability in the region,” the spokesperson further said.

On Thursday, a preliminary agreement was reached in Switzerland that would prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons while getting relief from international sanctions.

The initial agreement on the future shape of Iran’s nuclear programme was reached after eight-day talks between Iran and Six world powers in the Swiss city of Lausanne.

The Islamic Republic of Iran and International powers set June 30 deadline for the final deal.
