Chinese president to perform groundbreaking of economic corridor: Iqbal

KARACHI, Pakistan: The Chinese President Xi Jinping will perform ground breaking of the Pakistan-China economic corridor project, the Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal said on Saturday.

Earlier on Friday, media reports said that the Chinese president is likely to arrive in Pakistan next week.

Talking to media representatives in Karachi on Saturday, the minister said that the Pak-China economic corridor project will prove to be a fate-changer for the region.

The federal minister once again dispelled the impression that any change has been made in the route of the corridor, stressing that this project will serve all the provinces and create many opportunities.

Iqbal said that work is also being initiated on the generation of 10,000 megawatt of electricity with the Chinese cooperation.

The minister said that both Pakistan and China are transforming their relations into a strategic economic partnership which will have far reaching impact on the country’s economy.

The planning and development minister said that the country’s economic indicators are on positive trajectory and the international agencies have also recognized the economic revival of Pakistan.

In her weekly media briefing in Islamabad on March 26, the Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasnim Aslam had said that the Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Pakistan was confirmed and the dates of his visit would be announced simultaneously in Beijing and Islamabad.

The spokesperson had said that during the visit of the Chinese president, the two countries would review the whole gamut of bilateral relations as well as regional and international matters of common interests.
