SC orders to hold LB polls in Punjab, Sindh on September 20

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to hold local government elections in Punjab and Sindh on September 20.

A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja issued the verdict while hearing a case regarding local government elections in Islamabad on Tuesday.

In its judgment, the bench also directed the ECP to hold local bodies (LB) elections in Islamabad on July 25.

The bench also directed the commission to ensure holding of local government elections on prescribed dates.

Later, the bench adjourned the hearing of the case for an indefinite period.

Earlier on Friday, the apex court accepted the schedule of local bodies elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the cantonment boards according to which, the LB elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be held on May 30 while in the 43 cantonment boards on April 15.
