Pakistan desires friendly relations with India, Nawaz tells Modi

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that Pakistan desires friendly relations with all its neighboring countries including India to ensure regional peace and development.

Sharif made these remarks while talking to his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi who telephoned him on Friday.

During the talks, the two leaders discussed bilateral relations as well as the regional security situation.

Nawaz Sharif told Narendra Modi that Pakistan wants resolution of all outstanding disputes with India through dialogue.

Moreover, he said that dialogue between Pakistan and India is imperative for peace and stability in the region.

Modi also conveyed well wishes for the Pakistan-India ICC World Cup cricket match to be played on Sunday at the Adelaide Oval. He said that he hoped players from both teams would play a good game of cricket with passion.

The relations between Pakistan and India have become even more tenuous and strained since Modi government arrived in New Delhi in May last year.

The unilateral cancellation of bilateral dialogue process by India and the consistent incidents of ceasefire violations by the Indian border forces at the Line of Control (LoC) and the Working boundary have caused the tension between Pakistan-India ties.

However, Pakistan is calling upon India to resume their stalled dialogue for the regional peace, stability and development.
