Chinese foreign minister arrives in Islamabad on two-day visit

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi accompanied by an eight-member delegation arrived in Islamabad on Thursday for a two-day official visit.

During his visit, the Chinese foreign minister will hold delegation-level talks with the prime minister’s adviser on national security and foreign affairs Sartaj Aziz.

Wang Yi will also call on President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

In their talks, the two sides will review and further consolidate all aspects of bilateral relationship with special focus on political, strategic and economic cooperation.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Foreign Office said that the Chinese foreign minister’s visit would also afford an opportunity to both sides to have a free and frank exchange of views on regional and global developments of mutual interest.

“Pakistan attaches great importance to its comprehensive strategic partnership with China,” the foreign office said.

“Such high-level visits are a regular feature of the time-tested and unshakeable bonds of friendship between the governments and peoples of Pakistan and China,” it added.

During the visit, the ministry of foreign affairs and the Chinese embassy in Islamabad would also co-host the Launching Ceremony of Pakistan-China ‘Year of Friendly Exchanges.’
