Sadiq terms Imran’s allegations about election rigging as 'baseless'

LAHORE, Pakistan: The Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has termed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s allegations about election rigging as ‘baseless’.

In his statement recorded before an election tribunal in Lahore on Saturday over alleged rigging in the NA-122 constituency, Sadiq rejected the allegations levelled against him and said that his constituency saw fair and transparent polls.

Sadiq further said that even after a re-count was carried out, he was found securing 8,500 votes more than Imran Khan.

Later talking to media persons, the speaker national assembly said that the case is sub judice and neither him nor Imran Khan are the judges.

In addition, he said that the judgment will be on the basis of justice and not whims.

On February 2, Imran Khan met the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (retd) Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan to apprise him about the PTI’s concerns about alleged manipulation in the general elections held in May 2013.

The PTI leader Imran Khan demanded the CEC to suspend the speaker national assembly till investigation into the alleged rigging in the NA-122 constituency is complete.
