Nawaz, General Raheel discuss NAP implementation, Zarb-e-Azb

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif held a meeting in Islamabad on Friday and discussed the security situation in the country.

During the meeting, the top civilian and military leadership discussed matters related to the implementation of the 20-point national action plan (NAP) for combating terrorism and extremism.

The army chief informed the prime minister about successes in the ongoing military operation Zarb-e-Azb against different proscribed militant outfits in North Waziristan and surrounding areas.

The prime minister appreciated the resolve of the armed forces in the fight against terrorism and said that the government and the nation fully supported the armed forces.

Earlier on February 3, the Corps Commanders in a meeting with the COAS in the chair in Rawalpindi undertook a comprehensive review of internal and external security situation of the country.

The review also focused on the most effective manner of implementing the NAP with the federal and provincial governments in order to eliminate terrorism, extremism and sectarianism without any discrimination.
