Petition filed in SHC to impose life-time ban on Muhammad Amir

KARACHI, Pakistan: A petition was filed in the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday, seeking a life-time ban on cricketers Muhammad Amir, Salman Butt and Muhammad Asif.

The petition was filed by a citizen Rana Faizul Hasan, a couple of days after the International Cricket Council (ICC) allowed the left-arm fast bowler Muhammad Amir to play domestic cricket.

In his petition, the petitioner said that these players should not be allowed to play the sport because they had brought disgrace to the entire nation.

Later, the SHC admitted the petition and formed a division bench headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar to hear the petition on February 16.

The court also issued notices to the Government of Pakistan through the federal law secretary, the PCB Chairman Shahryar Khan and Muhammad Amir to submit their responses by the next hearing of the case.

The ICC Board at its meeting held in Dubai on January 29, allowed Muhammad Amir to participate in domestic matches, paving his way for a return to international cricket.

The ban on Muhammad Amir is scheduled to come to an end on September 2, 2015.

The ICC tribunal on February 5, 2011 had banned former Pakistan captain Salman Butt for 10 years, Muhammad Asif for seven years and Muhammad Amir for five years after being found guilty of deliberately bowling no balls in return for money in the Lord’s Test in England in 2010.
