Kochi, India: Two youth were arrested by the Ernakulam central police on Monday for alle-gedly raping a17-year-old girl, who was staying in a college hostel in the city. The Dispatch News Desk (DND) reports.

Nishad, 23, of Ponjassery in Perumbavoor and Rath-eesh, 20, of Nayarupara in Idukky were arrested for the incident that took place about three months ago. Nishad allegedly first took the girl for a tour of Wayanad after promising to marry her and raped her in a lodge in Meena-ngadi before bringing her back to the hostel. “He later asked her to pose as his sister and help his friend elope with his girlfriend as a way of getting her to go with him to Munnar.

When she refused, he blackmai-led her into going with him and raped her in a hotel in Munnar. He also stole her gold jewellery,” circle ins-pector of Central police, Francis Shelby said.

When the hostel authorities found that the girl had not returned after curfew time, they lodged a police complaint. When she did come back, the hostel ref-used to admit her and Nish-ad reportedly offered to send her to a “safe place” till she turned 18 and they could get married.

But he instead left her with Ratheesh in Thiruva-nanthapuram, who raped her in his house in Idukky, promising her marriage, the police added. The two were later arrested and produced in court before being rem-anded to judicial custody.
