No room for terrorists in Pakistan: Nawaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Tuesday that there is no room for terrorists in our society and all necessary steps are being taken to eliminate them from Pakistani soil.

In a meeting held in Islamabad on Tuesday to review progress on the implementation of the national action plan, the premier said that the government will not ease till the elimination of all terrorists from the country.

The Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Attorney General Salman Butt, Secretary Law Barrister Zafarullah, Federal Secretary for Ministry of Interior Shahid Khan and National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) Coordinator Hamid Ali Khan along with other senior officials attended the meeting.

During the meeting, the prime minister was briefed on legislative and administrative measures as well as the progress on sub-committees regarding implementation of the national action plan adopted in the wake of Peshawar army public school attack to combat terrorism.

It was agreed that Gilgit-Baltistan and the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Councils would also adopt the 21st constitutional amendment as well as amendment in the army act to facilitate formation of military courts in those areas.

The prime minister was informed that 164 cases have been registered in Punjab and Islamabad for use of hate speech and material while 157 persons have been arrested since December 23.

Sharif was informed that 40 printing presses and shops have also been sealed.

Likewise, 1,994 cases have been registered and 1,088 persons have been arrested on the misuse of loudspeakers.
