Federal govt, PTI to reach agreement on judicial commission soon: Ahsan Iqbal

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: An agreement would be reached between the federal government and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on formation of judicial commission to probe alleged rigging in 2013 general elections and all other matters soon.

This was stated by the Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal while talking to media after launch of national “Annual Statues of Education Report Pakistan-2014” in Islamabad on Thursday.

The minister said that the government is committed to forming judicial commission proposed by the PTI.

The two sides have held a few rounds of talks to resolve their differences over the proposed judicial commission but they are yet unable to reach a consensus.

On Tuesday in a press conference in Islamabad, the PTI Chairman Imran Khan set January 18 as the deadline for the federal government to form a judicial commission to probe the alleged rigging in 2013 general elections.

Imran Khan said that the PTI will resume its agitation if the ruling party fails to meet its demand for a judicial commission.

“I request the government once again to constitute an empowered judicial commission. Otherwise, I will be left with no other option but to resume my protest,” the PTI chief said.

The PTI chief said that his party’s future course of action will be announced on January 18.

Moscow says it won’t allow US to silence UNSC on Israeli violence against Palestinians Monitoring Desk: Russian envoy in United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said that the UN Security Council should bring peace, stability and prosperity to the Middle East and Russia would not allow United States to silence UNSC over the issue of Gaza crisis. According to TASS news Agency, Nebenzya said that Moscow will continue to call for an end to violence against Palestinians and will not allow the US to muzzle the UN Security Council as Washington seeks to support Israel's operation in Gaza. "We will continue to stand firmly for ending violence against the Palestinians. Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to expose the abuses and sanctimony with which the US is handling the situation. We will not allow the Americans to gag the entire council with their hands in an effort to encourage further continuation of Israel's ruthless operation," he said in a speech at the Security Council.
