PTI has shown whatever flexibility it could in talks with govt: Umar

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The negotiating teams of the federal government and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) held another round of talks in Islamabad aimed at resolving their differences over remaining three points.

The federal finance minister Ishaq Dar and the planning and development minister Ahsan Iqbal represented the government side while Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Asad Umar participated from the PTI side in the talks which were held on Tuesday night at the residence of the PTI general secretary Jahangir Tareen.

Later talking to media after the talks, the PTI leader Asad Umar said that the government insists on dealing with the cases of rigging at the constituency level but his party argues that if rigging is proved in a selected number of constituencies, it should lead to the holding of snap polls.

“We told the government team that the PTI has demonstrated whatever flexibility it could. Now the ball is in your (the government’s) court,” Asad Umar added.

The minister for planning and development said that the two sides showed flexibility in their stance and hoped that differences would be resolved soon. He  said that the government was ready to form an independent Judicial Commission to probe into alleged rigging in 2013 general elections.

On the occasion, the finance minister said that the PTI stance would be discussed with the party leadership and talks would resume on Wednesday.
