Corps Commanders review country’s internal, external security situation

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The 177th Corps Commanders’ Conference was held on Saturday at the army’ general headquarter in Rawalpindi under the chairmanship of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif.

During the conference, the participants undertook a comprehensive review of internal and external security situation of the country apart from discussing matters of professional interest, says a press release issued by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The participants were also briefed on the improving Pak-Afghan bilateral relationship while the COAS emphasized early operationalization of all mutually discussed and agreed security related initiatives with Afghanistan

The ISPR said that the conference was appraised with the progress of operations Zarb-e-Azb and Khyber-1 as well as was briefed on the next phases of the operation.

The army chief expressed complete satisfaction on the progress of the operations and lauded the achievements made so far.

“Ongoing Intelligence based operations, which have led to the apprehension of a large number of terrorists hiding across the country, were reviewed,” the ISPR said.

The COAS while appreciating the effort directed continuous evaluation of threat to be able to respond pre-emptively and effectively and an effective integration of efforts of all intelligence agencies to achieve optimum results against terrorists.

Moreover, the participants also discussed in detail strategy for return of the temporary displaced persons (TDPs) including rehabilitation of the North Waziristan tribal region and rest of the federally administrated tribal areas (FATA).

The army chief underlined the need for preparation and integration of efforts with federal and provincial governments for safe and dignified return of all TDPs to their homes at priority.
