Pakistan, Iran agree to boost bilateral trade

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Iranian Minister for Economic Affairs and Finance Dr Ali Tayyebnia called on Prime Minster Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad on Tuesday, and held a discussion focusing on Pakistan-Iran bilateral relations with particular reference to the economic dimension.

During the meeting, both the prime minister and the Iranian minister underscored the importance attached to deeper bilateral relations for increased trade and economic cooperation.

Both sides agreed to increase mutual investment and bilateral trade between the two countries.

The Iranian minister is visiting Pakistan to attend the 19th session of the Pakistan-Iran Joint Economic Commission (JEC) being held in Islamabad on December 8-9.

The prime minister hoped that the session would open new areas of cooperation while fortifying the existing initiatives that the two brotherly countries have engaged in so far.

Sharif also conveyed his best wishes to Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The Federal Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar was also present during the meeting.

The Iranian Economic and Finance Minister earlier on Monday also held a meeting with the Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz at the Foreign Office in Islamabad.
