WASHINGTON: The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) Chief General Lloyd Austin has lauded Pakistan army’s committed fight against terrorism, the Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asim Bajwa wrote on his twitter account.

During a meeting with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif held at the US CENTCOM Headquarters in Florida, the CENTCOM commander paid tributes to Pakistan Army for its commitment, professionalism and achievement in fight against terror.

The DG ISPR said that the US General also expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s ongoing military operation Zarb-e-Azb against the militants.

The COAS gave Pakistan’s perspective on regional security, improving Pakistan-Afghanistan military relations.

Bajwa said that the Indian aggression along Kashmir Line of Control (LoC) was also discussed during the meeting between the two military leaders.

The army chief is currently on a seven-day visit to the United States to explore the possibilities of further enhancing mutually beneficial relationship.

Meanwhile, a US State Department spokesman Jeff Rathke told a news briefing in Washington that the Pakistan’s army chief held a series of high-level meetings with the US officials at the CENTCOM headquarters in Florida.

The spokesman said that these meetings, focusing on a range of issues including border security, were positive and productive.

“We have a broad relationship with Pakistan and chief of the army staff’s visit will help further strengthen the bilateral ties,” Jeff Rathke said.

The State Department spokesman acknowledged Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts including the ongoing ‘Zarb-e-Azb’ operation in North Waziristan, describing them as extremely important.
