PM Nawaz leaves for China on three-day visit

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif left for China on a three-day official visit on Friday to lead the Pakistan delegation at the “Dialogue on Strengthening Connectivity Partnership” being held in Beijing on November 8.

The dialogue has been organized by China prior to the 22nd Session of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.

“The Prime Minister’s participation in the Dialogue underlines the importance Pakistan attaches to our bilateral relations with China and to the subject of connectivity in terms of infrastructure development and promotion of trade and investment,” the Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasneem Aslam said at her weekly news briefing in Islamabad on Thursday.

During his visit, the prime minister will also hold meetings with the Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang and discuss regional situation and bilateral relations.

Both the countries will sign agreements worth $35 billion investment in Pakistan during Nawaz Sharif’s visit.

The agreements include 14 projects relating to 10,400 MW electricity generation besides several contracts for infrastructure development and development of Gwadar Port in Balochistan. These also include construction of Khuzdar-Gwadar road as part of China-Pakistan economic corridor.

The two countries would also sign agreements for cooperation in railways and establishment of special economic zones.
