US condemns terrorist act at Wagah border

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The US ambassador to Pakistan Richard Olson condemned the suicide blast near the Wagah border and said that this act demonstrates terrorists’ blatant disregard for life.

In a statement, the US envoy said that the United States remains steadfast in its commitment to the people of Pakistan in their efforts to counter terrorism.

On Sunday evening, at least 60 persons including three Rangers personnel were killed while over 100 others were injured in a suicide attack near the Wagah border.

The outlawed Jundullah and the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP)-affiliated Jamaat-ul-Ahrar outfits separately claimed responsibility for the blast which occurred after the flag lowering ceremony was over at the Pak-India joint border.

Entire nation united against abortive theory of terrorists: President, PM

President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif strongly condemned the blast near the Wagah border and said that the entire nation is united against the abortive theory of terrorists.

In their separate condolence messages, they said that the terrorists cannot succeed in their nefarious designs to divide the nation.

The prime minister has directed the interior ministry and law enforcement agencies to provide all necessary support to the Punjab government in investigating the Wagah incident to bring those responsible for this human tragedy to justice.

Nawaz Sharif also sought a report on the incident.
