KARACHI, Pakistan: The severe Tropical Cyclone Nilofar in Arabian Sea is likely to move towards northward coastal areas of Sindh today (Wednesday).
The Pakistan Meteorological Department said that the cyclone would move with a speed of five kilometers per hour towards adjoining coastal areas of lower Sindh and Indian Gujarat today.
Under the influence of this cyclone, widespread rain, thundershowers with isolated heavy rainfalls accompanied by strong gusty winds are expected in lower Sindh including Karachi and coastal areas of Balochistan from Wednesday night to Friday.
The section 144 has been imposed in the coastal areas of Karachi, Thatta, Badin and Sajawal and fishermen have been stopped from venturing in the sea, according to the Director General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sindh Syed Salman Shah.
In a meeting at the PDMA, he said that all concerned departments have been directed to be ready to cope with any situation arising from the cyclone. He said that leaves of all the medical staff and employees of civic organization have also been cancelled.
