PakistanPML-N rejects govt nominees for caretaker PM

ISLAMABAD: The Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Friday rejected all three nominees proposed by Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf for caretaker Prime Minister, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.

Talking to media persons, Nisar said that consultations could only move forward if the names proposed by Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) for the caretaker Prime Minister are considered by the government.

On Thursday, in a letter written to the opposition leader, the prime minister had proposed the names of former Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, former director State Bank Dr Ishrat Hussain, and former chief justice of the Balochistan High Court, Mir Hazar Khan Khoso for caretaker PM.

However, in a telephone call to PM Ashraf on Friday, Nisar rejected all three names proposed by the government.

Moreover, Nisar also withdrew the name of Justice (retd) Shakirullah Jan from the list of three nominations forwarded by him.

The other two nominees proposed by the opposition leader were Justice (retired) Nasir Aslam Zahid, and Sindhi politician Rasul Bakhsh Paleejo.

Nisar said if consensus on the name of caretaker Prime Minister is not reached‚ the matter will then be referred to parliamentary committee.
