India ready to engage in serious bilateral talks with Pakistan: Modi

NEW YORK: The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that India is prepared to engage in a serious bilateral dialogue with Pakistan in a peaceful atmosphere to promote friendship and cooperation.

In his address at the 69th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Saturday, the Indian prime minister claimed that his government has placed the highest priority on advancing friendship and cooperation with neighbours including Pakistan.

Referring to UN peacekeeping efforts, Modi said that troops contributing countries should be involved in the process of decision making.

On Friday, addressing the UN General Assembly, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that both Pakistan and India need to resume dialogue process to settle their disputes.

Sharif said that Pakistan and India must remain engaged in dialogue process to settle the disputes and build economic and trade relations. He said that Pakistan was disappointed at the cancellation of the Foreign Secretary level talks by India.
