If allegations against me proved, I will retire from politics: Nisar

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Saturday proposed that a judicial commission or tribunal may investigate veracity of the allegations against him and if proved he would not only resign from the ministry but also retire from the politics.

In a press conference held in Islamabad on Saturday, the interior minister said that he respects counselling of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, leaders of other political parties and his colleagues to exercise restraint to allow the situation to cool down.

The interior minister said that he has decided to ignore what happened in the Parliament yesterday.

On Friday, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senior Aitzaz Ahsan at the joint session of the parliament sought the removal of Chaudhry Nisar by suggesting that the prime minister should reshuffle his cabinet to induct so much talent sitting behind you on the back benches.

The PPP senior leader also apparently suggested Nisar’s involvement in alleged wrongdoing by Punjab revenue officials in Rawalpindi, and cited an alleged hesitation of a brother of the minister as defence secretary to notify the appointment of a new army chief on October12, 1999.

Aitzaz Ahsan said that this had given other generals time to make a coup against then prime minister Nawaz Sharif after he had sacked army chief General Pervez Musharraf.
