Taliban attack Afghanistan’s National Directorate of Security, six killed

KABUL, Afghanistan: The Taliban militants attacked an office of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) in Afghanistan’s eastern city of Jalalabad on Saturday morning that left at least six persons dead and another 46 injured.

“The attack was carried out by a vehicle bomb on the Nangarhar provincial NDS office, and then some militants started attacking the office,” the Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, spokesman for the Nangarhar provincial governor, told a foreign news agency.

The spokesman said that three NDS employees were killed in the attack.

The bombing prompted heavy fighting between the Taliban militants and the Afghan police.

The Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the attack in an email statement to the media, claiming several NDS agents were killed in the attack.
