PAT, PTI deny govt claims that they requested for meeting with army chief

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Pakistan Awami Tehreek-e-Insaf (PAT) leader Dr Tahirul Qadri on Friday rejected Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s speech in the National Assembly, accusing the prime minister and interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan of speaking lies on the floor of house.

His statement came shortly after the prime minister told the parliament that it was the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan and the PAT leader Dr Tahirul Qadri who requested a meeting with the Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif.

The interior minister also told the house that the involvement of the Pakistan army was made at the request of the protesting parties.

“I am not well, but I heard them and came out immediately. They have deceived the nation; they lied on the floor of the national assembly. It is pitiful that this is Pakistan Parliament,” Dr Tahirul Qadri said.

“The government and PM say they did not request the army to act as mediator in this crisis. This is a lie,” Qadri added.

“They requested it. We do not know when they met. But the request to the army chief and army to resolve this issue as mediator came from the prime minister and incumbent government.”

Qadri said that he came to know about the role of the army in negotiations through the media.
