Army chief’s role for mediation should be taken as positive step: Khawaja Asif

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal minister for defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif has said that the role of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif for mediation should be taken as a positive step to normalize the current political situation.

In an interview, the defence minister said that the government intends to resolve the political crisis through dialogue and reconciliatory approach.

On Thursday, the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan announced that the army chief had been appointed by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif as a ‘mediator’ and ‘guarantor’ for bringing the current crisis between the government and protesters to an end.
