Federal govt to resign if election rigging proved, says Ahsan Iqbal

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal minister for planning and development Ahsan Iqbal has said that if the allegations of election rigging are proved following a probe by the judicial commission, the government will not only step down but it will also announce fresh elections.

In an interview, the minister said that the government has accepted basic demands of the Pakistan Tehreek-e- Insaf (PTI) for electoral reforms and transparent investigation into 2013 general elections.

However, he said, said the PTI’s demand for resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is not acceptable.

The federal minister further said that dialogue is continuing with both the parties including the PTI and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) to find amicable solution of the current situation. He hoped that the nation will hear some good news in the next one to two days.
